BETTER TOGETHER classes are aimed to achieve long-term fitness with a strength training circuit that does it all – exercises for strength, mobility, agility, balance, and cardio endurance. The emphasis is on functional fitness aimed to help perform everyday movements more efficiently and easily. Basic strength training moves such as squats, lunges, push-ups, are taught, for beginners to experienced, to work on form and range of motion so that the movements can be progressed to add weight as strength develops. Mary has worked with people of all ages and abilities, including those with recently replaced joints, arthritis, and many other limitations. Learning to do exercises safely and at your own pace is the key to success. Mary has helped people ages 30 to 90 overcome their fears of injury to learn to do these basic moves properly and get stronger. Participants gain more energy to do everyday tasks and begin doing things they couldn’t do before, like getting up and down from the floor quickly, with ease, picking up grandchildren, improving their golf games and trying stand-up paddle boarding.

Classes or one-on-one work begin with mobility exercises to improve flexibility and ease of movement. Agility exercises develop quickness and practice moving in all directions. Challenging balance movements help with posture and stability. The strength section of the workout is in the form of a circuit, 6-9 exercises are performed, usually three rounds of each one. Functional fitness exercises often move multiple joints and muscles and can include aerobic exercises, body weight movements and resistance using weights, bands and other equipment. Designed for most levels of fitness, exercises can be modified to meet your level. For example, a push up can be performed against a wall, on an elevated surface, on a mat from your knees or from your toes.
